SUMMARY

    The solute carrier (SLC) protein superfamily accounts for over 50% of all transport-related proteins and about 10% of all membrane_proteins encoded by the human genome. Because of these properties and the lack of common sequence patterns in the different SLC transporters, it has been difficult to assess how many SLC transporters exist in the human genome or which proteins could be predicted as SLC transporters.
