    Epidemiological studies have identified associations of elevated systemic inflammation levels and worse cognition in cross-sectional studies, and a steeper cognitive decline in prospective studies. Anti-inflammatory therapy, particularly nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs), has been associated with a lower risk of cognitive decline in a meta-analysis of observational cohort studies.
