The accuracy of point-of-care ultrasound (pocus) in acute gallbladder disease

SUMMARY

    Diseases of the gallbladder are among the most frequent abdominal problems encountered in emergency departments, and over 20 million patients present annually with biliary symptoms in the United_States. Thirty-two of 84 inpatients (38%) had a clinical diagnosis and POCUS diagnosis of acute cholecystitis, of which twenty-four were categorized as acute gallstone cholecystitis, five as acute acalculous cholecystitis and three patients as complicated acute cholecystitis. The Cohen`s Kappa coefficient was 0.92, signifying almost perfect agreement between radiology and POCUS in diagnosing acute cholecystitis.
