SUMMARY
In 1948, its mechanism of action was discovered, revealing that DNP is a protonophore, able to move protons through lipid bilayers and thus to chemically uncouple substrate oxidation from ATP production. Mammals naturally use an uncoupling protein in brown adipose_tissue (BAT) and beige/brite adipose_tissue to generate heat to maintain core body temperature . . .
