The ASPCA experienced a 70% increase in animals going to foster homes; the Animal Care Centers of New York City called for 200 foster homes and received 2000 applications. Academic research has indicated both a decrease in fostering during the pandemic in 2020 compared to 2019 as well as an increase in fostering.
