SUMMARY

    Epidemiologically, approximately 22% of patients who evolved with COVID-19, a critical illness caused by SARS-CoV-2, develop an acute liver injury (Nascimento et_al, 2020a; Nascimento et_al, 2020b). Pre-existing chronic liver diseases strongly correlate with morbidity and mortality (Ahmad et_al, 2021; Liu et_al, 2022). This theory was refuted as evidence-based studies showed no worse prognosis among patients with previous liver pathologies (Guan et_al, 2020; Kulkarni et_al, 2020).
