SUMMARY

    Despite the fact that participation in regular physical activity (PA) has numerous health benefits for young people, many children and adolescents are physically inactive and become even less active as they become older. Research has revealed that the two goals are differently associated with PA: intrinsic goals are indirectly and positively related to PA, whereas extrinsic goals are indirectly and negatively related to PA via self-determined motivation (Gillison et_al, 2006; Sebire et_al, 2011).
