Global estimates indicate that 71 million people suffer from hepatopathies caused by chronic hepatitis_C virus (HCV) infection. Hepatic steatosis represents a common histologic feature in chronic viral hepatitis_C, but it can also be present independently, in association with obesity, increased alcohol consumption, type 2 diabetes_mellitus (T2DM), and hyperlipidemia.
