SUMMARY
The first interaction between SARS-CoV-2 and human lung cells corresponds to the recognition of the viral spike_protein by the human angiotensin-converting enzyme 2 (ACE2) receptor on epithelial_cells in the airways. One of the most pronounced cellular responses to SARS-CoV-2 in lung cells is the cytokine storm, which can dramatically lead to acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS), with subsequent lung injury. Natural compounds/extracts, e_g, from the vegetal kingdom, exhibiting antimicrobial or antiviral properties are strongly attractive.
