- What: Various definitions have been given in the literature depending on the research objective involved: by those who have sought to estimate its size, the shadow economy is considered as simply unrecorded economic activity; those who have tried to explain the reasons behind individual participation in the shadow economy refer to behavioural characteristics. The study seeks first to analyse, using a micro model, the link between individuals` income and the shadow economy, and then to empirically investigate theresults, at macro level, the relationship between the GDP level and the shadow economy.
