SUMMARY

    Focal areas of the Americas, the global distribution of onchocerciasis is now entirely concentrated in Africa and Yemen. Evidence from settings in Uganda and Sudan, from the Onchocerciasis Elimination Program in the Americas, and from modeling studies suggests there is a possibility that annual or more frequent MDA reaching at least 80% of the eligible population may halt transmission. Since local factors such as vector subspecies, human movement, and environmental conditions contribute to local variation in onchocerciasis prevalence, model-based geostatistics offers an opportunity to integrate the spatial and temporal relations in the existing . . .
