- What: The study aims to examine thematic progression in argumentative essays by third-year Englishmajored students. The results of this study showed that the least frequent thematic progression pattern was thematic progression with derived themes, which is in line with studies by Soleymanzadeh and Gholami , Pavavijarn , and Sari and Agustina .
