- What: The authors examine the usages and semantic features of two metaphorical compound verbs can-shi and jing-tun through a corpus-based collocation study to tease out people`s internal understanding of their meanings. The authors compare the vehicle with tenor to help listeners to better understand the tenor. The research on this kind of words during that period focused primarily on three perspectives, namely, word building, rhetorical devices, and word formation (He, 1982; Ren, 1981; Sun, 1956).
