SUMMARY

    Recent interrogation of the scRNASeq landscape of squamous cell EC has revealed a complex microenvironment with many features of immune suppression including accumulation of proliferative and exhausted CD8+ T_cells. The authors observe that EAC elicits a strong T_cell immune_response, whose efficacy is likely limited by exhaustion, extrinsic cellular regulation and impaired antigen presentation. Cycling cells were predominantly T_cells and mostly expressed the tissue residency marker CD103 (ITGAE) together with CD39 (ENTPD1) which has been associated with tumor specificity (Fig S7B). Intratumoral CD8+ T_cells were enriched in CXCL13 and CCL4 expression, mediators of immune cell . . .
