The authors examine linguistic manifestations of this phenomenon-that is, whether self-related words (here, pronouns; e_g, "my" and "me") have a stronger connection to linguistic expressions of agency (here, verbs; Formanowicz et_al, 2017) than other-related words (here, pronouns; e_g, "his" or "him"). To examine this hypothesis, the authors applied the Implicit Association Test (IAT; Greenwald et_al, 1998), a task frequently used to measure mental relations between concepts. Given the importance of agency for the self, also not surprisingly, perceptions of one`s agency are also the strongest predictor of self-esteem evaluations . . .
