Thermal modification influences the mechanical resistance of wood from forestry species

SUMMARY

    Over the years, the global demand and consumption of wood has been increasing substantially. This study evaluated the effects of thermal modification for different time durations and at temperatures on the mechanical strength of wood selected from species from an agroforestry system. This can be explained by the relationship with the amount of hemicellulose, as an increase in time leads to a more accentuated reduction of this polymer, which directly changes the strength (MODES et_al, 2017; ARAÚJO et_al, 2012). In contrast, for the other species, there was an oscillation without a stabilization trend . . .
