Three polymethoxyflavones from the peel of citrus reticulata “chachi” inhibits oxidized low-density lipoprotein-induced macrophage-derived foam cell formation

HIGHLIGHTS

SUMMARY

Atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease (CVD) is the leading cause of CVDs worldwide. The main cause of foam cell formation is related to the excessive accumulation of oxidized low-density lipoprotein (ox-LDL) in macrophages, leading to an imbalance in intracellular cholesterol homeostasis, which involves three processes: lipid uptake, cholesterol esterification, and cholesterol efflux. Cytotoxicity of TAN, HxMF, and HpMF at a series of concentrations on RAW264.7 cells (A); effects of TAN, HxMF, and HpMF on ox-LDL-induced production of NO (B); effects of TAN, HxMF, and HpMF on ox-LDL-induced mRNA expression . . .
