    The intercellular adhesion of epithelial_cells is mediated by different cell adhesion receptors, in particular cell adhesion receptors of the cadherin and of the immunoglobulin (Ig) superfamilies (SF). The IgSF member transmembrane and immunoglobulin domain-containing protein 1 (TMIGD1) is predominantly expressed by intestinal and renal epithelial_cells. In the kidney, TMIGD1 protein expression is restricted to proximal tubules and is absent from epithelial_cells . . .
