Since the outbreak of COVID-19, patients with diabetes have been at a higher risk of viral infection and, if infected, are more likely to develop serious diseases, with an increased mortality risk. A retrospective study in the United_States revealed that COVID-19 patients suffering from diabetes exhibited more than twice the mortality rate (14.8%) of COVID-19 patients without underlying medical conditions (6.2%).
