Traditional identity contents predict women’s amusement with sexist jokes about men through benevolent but not hostile sexism

  • What: The internalization of the traditional model of sex roles, men-women interdependence, and women`s strong gender ingroup identification seem to be the main reasons for developing and maintaining ambivalent sexism in women. The authors propose to treat sexist humor targeting men as either blatantly disparaging or non-disparaging. This research examined the relationships between women`s traditional/progressive identity contents, the strength of their gender identification, ambivalent sexism toward men, and their amusement with sexist jokes targeted at men. The authors propose hostile and benevolent sexism toward men as a possible mechanism underlying the relationship . . .
