HIGHLIGHTS
- who: Anne Cuypers and colleagues from the University of Oxford, United Kingdom have published the research: Tumor vessel co-option: The past & the future, in the Journal: (JOURNAL)
- what: Using this model, HMLE mammary cancer cells and 4T1 mammary cancer cells (murine) were shown to co-opt brain arteries, with a primary role of the connexin gap junction protein Cx43 in brain colonization and metastatic extravasation . The model proposed that cancer cells can break loose from the tumor bulk, and journey through air spaces to attach to alveolar walls, which are surrounded by capillaries .
