After the description of the first species (Acerentomon doderoi Silvestri, 1907) the first worldwide overview of Protura is due to the Tuxen's monograph where 143 valid species in 16 genera are reviewed. Such a volume contains a list of 748 specific and subspecific names of Protura (including eight species inquirendae and four nomina nuda) belonging to 72 genera.
