At the same time, the sustainability of the bioeconomy is seriously questioned, as the production of the necessary biomass still takes place under ecologically and socially detrimental conditions and has correspondingly harmful effects (e_g, Lühmann 2021). There is a plethora of governance frameworks and potential policy instruments to choose from in this regard (e_g, Ladu and Blind 2017; Singh et_al 2021). This model of private sustainability initiatives was soon followed by NGOs and companies in bioeconomy sectors such as coffee, palm oil, sugarcane or soy in particular and a number of initiatives emerged . . .
