    Asthma is a heterogeneous disease characterized by chronic airway inflammation and remodeling, responsible for variable airflow obstruction, thickening of the airway wall and increased mucus production. Despite the availability of effective and tailored pharmacological treatments targeting patients` inflammatory and clinical phenotypes, satisfactory control of asthma symptoms is still an unmet need and a major challenge for clinicians.
