Vascular wall microenvironment: exosomes secreted by adventitial fibroblasts induced vascular calcification

SUMMARY

In the present study, the authors found that exosomes secreted by 3.5 mM inorganic phosphorus (HPi) induced AFs (AFsHPi-Exos) significantly promoted the calcification of VSMCs compared with exosomes secreted by 0.9 mM inorganic phosphorus (NPi) induced AFs (AFsNPi-Exos). The results demonstrated that AFsHPi-Exos promoted the calcification of VSMCs by transferring miR-21-5p into VSMCs and inhibiting the expression of cysteine-rich motor neuron 1 (Crim1) in VSMCs. The authors further explored whether exosomes could regulate vascular calcification by transporting miR-21-5p in_vivo. The results suggest that exosomal miR-21-5p . . .
