Melatonin ameliorates age-related sarcopenia by inhibiting fibrogenic conversion of satellite cell

  • What: The authors report that treatment mitigated the loss of muscle mass and strength in aged mice replenished the satellite cell pool and curtailed muscle fibrosis. The authors employed an aged mice model to investigate the effects of melatonin on sarcopenia. The study demonstrates a significant decline in muscle mass and muscle strength in elderly mice, presenting of agerelated sarcopenia. The study demonstrated that melatonin reversed the upregulation of TGF-β1 and Smad2/3 phosphorylation in aged mice and SCs.
