- What: The authors aimed to systematically review the literature on T2DM in Nigeria to provide national and regional estimates of the prevalence. The pooled prevalence of type 2 diabetes obtained in this study showed that the IDF estimate did not truly represent the burden of diabetes in Nigeria as the prevalence was almost twice the estimate. The studies used in the review were not evenly distributed across various parts of Nigeria as most studies selected were conducted in the Southern geopolitical zones of Nigeria, with the Northern zones having significantly fewer studies.
