Lactobacillus acidophilus vb1 co-aggregates and inhibits biofilm formation of chronic otitis media-associated pathogens

  • What: The study assesses the antimicrobial and anti-biofilm effect of L acidophilus VB1 and its metabolites against CSOM-associated bacteria. The authors determined the MBIC50 of both La-CFS and La-BS, which is defined as the lowest concentration of an antimicrobial that inhibits ≥ 50% of biofilm formation compared to an untreated control (bacterial biofilm without antimicrobial treatment). The study showed that Lactobacillus acidophilus VB1 has the potential to auto-aggregate and co-aggregate with the tested bacterial pathogens.
