A zebrafish-based in vivo model of zika virus infection unveils alterations of the glutamatergic neuronal development and ns4a as a key viral determinant of neuropathogenesis

HIGHLIGHTS

  • What: The authors report an alternative in vivo model of ZIKV infection based on zebrafish which 1 / 33 __NEWPAGE__PLOS Foundation (https://fondationafrappier.ca/) and the Center of Excellence in Research on Orphan Diseases-Courtois Foundation (CERMO-FC; https:// www.cermofc.uqam.ca/). The authors aimed to gain more insight into NPC distribution and abundance in different brain regions following ZIKV infection. Most importantly, the authors show in this study that the zebrafish ZIKV infection model recapitulates important features of ZIKV neuropathogenesis and provides new insights about the associated dysfunctions. This may pave the way towards novel therapeutic . . .
