Direct intraocular lens extraction using a newly developed lens-grabbing forceps

  • What: The authors introduce a newly developed technique and specially designed forceps for the direct removal of IOL through a small incision. Although this study evaluated nine hydrophobic and one hydrophilic IOLs, similar results are expected with hydrophilic acrylic three-piece IOLs. The IOL extraction technique the authors report here is the least intraocularly demanding, requiring only forceps to grasp the IOL within the eye and pull it out.
