HIGHLIGHTS
- What: The authors present a model of the determinants of expression of the PE35-PPE68-esxB-esxA locus involving at least two promoters and show that the esxB and esxA transcripts have longer half-lives than the PE35-PPE68 transcript but that this does not seem to be explained by 5′ UTR structure. The authors show that the position of the major RNA cleavage site between PPE68 and esxB can be reprogrammed by a single-nucleotide substitution. The authors focused on the ~1800 transcripts within that dataset that are known to have 5′ UTRs .
