The study of differences between men and women in medicine is referred to as "sex/gender-specific medicine" (SGM) and is crucial in medical practice. Although it is generally believed that there is no difference in the occurrence of diseases between men and women, the reality is that sex and gender shape both the occurrence and clinical course of diseases.
